This session will review both the evidence-based guidelines and also the incorporation of a human factors approach to the safe use of medical devices such as endoscopes. In addition, participants will be exposed to a new CDC classification scheme for medical device product evaluation.

Dr. Hudson Garrett is currently employed as the Global Chief Clinical Officer for Pentax Medical and is the President and Co-Founder of the Infection Prevention Institute. He holds a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner, a Post-Masters Certificate in infection prevention and infection control, and a PhD in health care administration and policy. He has completed the Johns Hopkins Fellows Program in Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control, and the CDC Fundamentals of Healthcare Epidemiology and Antibiotic Stewardship program. He is board certified in family practice, critical care, vascular access, moderate sedation, infection prevention, legal nurse consulting, and as a director of nursing in long term care.
