Research shows workplace stress and burnout is at an all-time high and some surveys suggest that as many as 70 percent of nurses report feeling stress and burnout on the job. This presentation will lay a foundation by briefly exploring the differences between burnout and compassion fatigue and why it’s important to know the difference. Building upon that, the following discussion will include the three most common causes of workplace stressors which literature indicates are practice environment, organizational dynamics and collegial relationships. The content is rounded out by examining the implications of not dealing with stress and burnout and its impact on nurses, patients and organizations.
